The short answer: Lavender is a Gemini zodiac flower named by 1-800-Flowers, FTD, and ProFlowers. Teleflora names rose instead, and ProFlowers also suggests chrysanthemums. Gemini runs from May 21 to June 20. May’s birth flowers include lily of the valley and hawthorn; June’s include rose and honeysuckle. The ASPCA lists lavender, lily of the valley, and chrysanthemums as toxic to pets.

You’re standing at the nursery with a pot in each hand. One label says lavender; another says rose. Both have been called a flower for Gemini, and neither label tells you where the plant will thrive at home.
You may be choosing for yourself or for a Gemini, looking for a birthday flower or something to grow beside the porch. Those lead to different picks. Then there’s the question the plant tag won’t settle: whether a curious cat or dog shares the space.
6Lily of the Valley, a May Gemini Flower
For a Gemini born in May, lily of the valley is a birth-month choice. Teleflora lists it for May, as does the Society of American Florists.
Give it partial to full shade. Illinois Extension recommends spacing plants 6 to 8 inches apart. Its rhizomes spread and crowd other plants, so choose the patch before you plant.
The ASPCA lists lily of the valley as toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. Keep it away from pets and small children.
Best for: May-born Geminis with a shady planting spot that pets and children cannot reach.

5A Hawthorn Tree for a May Birthday
A May birthday doesn’t limit you to a groundcover. FTD names hawthorn as a May birth flower. The ASPCA lists it as non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses.
For the tree, choose full sun to part shade and moist, well-drained soil. Iowa State University Extension recommends planting in spring or early fall. Check the mature size of the hawthorn you buy before choosing its place in the yard.
Best for: May-born Geminis with room for a tree who want a pet-safe flowering choice.

4Coral Honeysuckle on a June Trellis
A honeysuckle vine looks lovely climbing a trellis. The trouble starts if the label says Japanese honeysuckle. The U.S. Forest Service documents its invasive spread across much of the eastern United States.
FTD names honeysuckle as a June birth flower. If that’s the one you want to grow, look for coral honeysuckle, *Lonicera sempervirens*, on the tag.
Give it part sun to part shade. UF/IFAS Extension specifies 36 to 60 inches between plants.
We couldn’t find an ASPCA pet-safety listing for honeysuckle. Check the exact species with your veterinarian before planting where a pet grazes.
Best for: June-born Geminis who want a hummingbird-friendly vine without Japanese honeysuckle’s invasive spread.

3Chrysanthemums for a Gemini Fall Garden
Before you set down a pot of chrysanthemums, think about who wanders through that bed. The ASPCA lists them as toxic to cats, dogs, and horses.
ProFlowers suggests chrysanthemums for Gemini. If your planting area is out of pets’ reach, give them full sun. Plant in early spring after frost, leaving 18 to 30 inches between plants for air flow.
Best for: Geminis who want fall blooms in a sunny planting area that pets cannot reach.

2Roses for a June Birthday
Measure the gap before you buy the rose bushes. Clemson Cooperative Extension calls for 4 to 5 feet between them so air moves through the planting. They need full sun, too.
Rose has two birthday ties. Teleflora pairs it with Gemini, while FTD and the Society of American Florists name it as a June birth flower.
The ASPCA lists roses as non-toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. If pet safety ruled out another flower, bring the tape measure back to the sunny spot.
Best for: June-born Geminis and pet owners with a sunny spot for classic flowers to cut.
1Lavender, the Gemini Zodiac Flower
For a Gemini zodiac flower, lavender is the leading choice. 1-800-Flowers, FTD, and ProFlowers all name it as the sign’s flower. It’s a florist’s pairing with an astrological sign, not a rule for every birthday bouquet.
English lavender needs full sun and well-drained soil. Utah State University Extension puts its preferred soil pH at about 6.5 to 7.5. Hardiness runs roughly USDA Zones 5 to 8. Check your planting zone and drainage before buying the pot.
The ASPCA lists lavender as toxic to cats, dogs, and horses. If a pet gets into it, call your veterinarian or the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center.
Best for: A Gemini who wants a widely named sign flower and has a sunny, well-drained spot pets cannot reach.
The bottom line
The sign gives you a leading choice. A Gemini’s birthday month gives you others, and the planting spot gives you the final say.
Check the plant tag, measure the space, and look up pet safety before reaching the checkout. Which flower would you make room for?
