Corrections
If we got something wrong, we want to know, and we will say so on the page.
How to report an error
Use the contact page and tell us the article, the sentence, and what you believe is wrong. If you have a source, include it. You don't need to be certain; a question is enough for us to look.
What we do
- We check the claim against the best source we can find, usually the agency or company involved.
- If the article is wrong, we fix it and add a dated note at the foot of the article saying what changed.
- If a rule has changed since the article was written, we update the article and note the date.
- If the article was right, we reply and explain why, with the source.
What counts as a correction
A factual error: a wrong figure, a wrong deadline, a rule stated the wrong way round, a right or benefit that does not exist as described. Differences of opinion, or a reader's own experience differing from the general rule, are welcome as feedback but are not corrections.
Timing
We aim to answer every report within five working days and to correct a confirmed error the same day we confirm it.
