Accessibility

A magazine for readers over 50 has no excuse for small type. Here is what we do, and how to tell us when it isn't enough.

What we do

  • Large, high-contrast type throughout, in a typeface chosen for legibility, with a text-size switch in the header that remembers your choice.
  • Every picture carries a written description for screen readers.
  • Every button and link can be reached and used with a keyboard, and each says what it does.
  • Headings, lists, and landmarks are marked up so that screen readers and reading modes can follow the structure of an article.
  • Motion is kept to a minimum and respects your device's reduced-motion setting.
  • Nothing on the page requires a precise tap; buttons are sized for real fingers.

What we are still working on

We test with the tools available to us, not with every combination of device and assistive software. If a page gives you trouble, we would rather hear about it than guess.
