Privacy policy
What we collect, what we do with it, and how to stop us. Last updated 30 October 2026.
Prime Journal is published by Third Eye Digital, LLC (“we”, “us”). This policy covers primejournal.org and every page on it, listed under Sites this policy covers. We have tried to write it the way we write everything else: in plain words, with nothing hidden in the fine print. If anything here is unclear, ask us through the contact page.
What we collect, and when
Reading the site. Like almost every website, we record how the site is used: which pages are viewed, for how long, how far down the page a reader scrolls, what is tapped, the type of device and browser, your internet (IP) address and the approximate location it points to, and the page or advert that brought you here. We use two analytics services for this, PostHog and Google Analytics. PostHog also makes recordings of some visits, showing how the page moved and what was tapped, so we can find pages that are hard to use; anything typed into a form is hidden in those recordings. Both services set cookies and use your browser's storage so that a visit can be counted as one visit. Readers are not identified by name.
Saving an article. If you ask us to email you a link to an article, we collect your email address, send you that one email, and add you to our readers list so we can send occasional picks. Every email we send has a one-click way to stop, and stopping is immediate.
Reactions, polls, and saved articles are remembered in your own browser so the page can show what you chose. A count of each choice, without your name, reaches our analytics.
Contacting us. If you write to us, we keep what you sent for as long as we need it to reply and to keep a record of the correspondence (see how long we keep it).
Your IP address
We collect your full IP address. We use it for three purposes: security (to detect, prevent and respond to fraud, abuse and unauthorized access), fraud prevention (to spot unusual traffic, bots and invalid clicks on adverts), and precise geolocation (to work out where a visit comes from, apply the privacy rules of that place, and let advertising partners show adverts suited to the area). This location comes only from your IP address and is usually accurate to a city or ZIP code. We never ask for or collect your device's GPS location. Your full IP address may be shared with our advertising and monetization partners as part of each request for an advert. See Advertising and Who else sees your information.
Cookies and browser storage
We use cookies and local storage for three things: to count visits accurately (PostHog and Google Analytics), to remember choices you make on the site (text size, reactions, a saved article, a dismissed reminder), and to let advertising partners, including Google and Meta, show and measure adverts. You can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time. The site still works without them; some conveniences will forget you between visits.
Advertising
The site is funded by display advertising served by Google AdSense. Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google's use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visits to this site and/or other sites on the internet. Those partners may also collect information about your browsing to measure adverts and limit how often you see the same one. Google explains how it uses information from sites that use its services.
How to opt out. You can opt out of personalized advertising from Google by visiting Google's Ads Settings. You can opt out of personalized advertising from many other vendors at aboutads.info (or youronlinechoices.eu in Europe). Where the law requires it, you will see a consent notice before any such cookie is set, and you can change your choice at any time from the link in the footer. Readers in California and other states with similar laws can opt out of the sale or sharing of personal information on our Do Not Sell or Share page. We honor Global Privacy Control signals sent by your browser. Opting out does not remove adverts; it means the ones you see are not chosen using your browsing.
We also use the Meta Pixel, a small piece of code from Meta, the company behind Facebook. When you open a page here, it tells Meta which page it was, so we can measure our Facebook adverts and show them to people who have already read Prime Journal. Meta handles that information under its own privacy policy. The Pixel does not load if your browser sends Global Privacy Control, if you turn it off on the privacy choices page, or for readers in the UK and Europe.
Who else sees your information
We don't sell your name or email address, and we don't give them to anyone to market to you. Advertising partners, including Google and Meta, receive the information described under Advertising when their code loads on a page. We also use a small number of service providers who process information on our behalf: Vercel hosts the site, PostHog and Google Analytics store usage data, and Resend sends our emails and holds the readers list. Each is bound by its own terms to protect the data and use it only for the service it provides. We may disclose information if the law requires it, or to protect the site, our readers, or others from harm.
How long we keep it
We keep information only as long as we need it for the purposes above. In practice:
- Usage data in PostHog (pages viewed, taps, device, IP address and approximate location): 12 months, then deleted automatically.
- Visit recordings in PostHog: 30 days, then deleted automatically.
- Google Analytics: data tied to a visitor is kept for up to 14 months, then deleted automatically. After that only totals remain, with nothing that points to a visitor.
- Server logs at our host, Vercel (which include IP addresses): no more than 30 days.
- Advertising data held by Google: kept under Google's own schedule. Google says it anonymizes advertising data in its server logs by removing part of the IP address after 9 months and cookie information after 18 months. See how Google retains data.
- Meta Pixel data: kept by Meta under its own privacy policy, linked above.
- Your email address: until you unsubscribe. After that it is kept only as an “unsubscribed” marker, so we never email it again by mistake; ask us and we will delete it entirely within 30 days.
- Messages you send us: up to 24 months after our last reply, then deleted.
- Reactions, polls, saved articles and text size: stay in your own browser until you clear its storage. We keep only anonymous totals.
If the law requires us to keep something for longer, we keep it only for as long as the law requires.
Your rights and choices
Wherever you live, you can ask us what information we hold about you, ask us to correct or delete it, and stop any email with one click. Readers in the European Union, the United Kingdom, California, and other places with privacy laws have further rights, including the right to object to certain processing and the right to complain to a regulator. To exercise any of these, use the contact page. We will answer within 30 days and we will never treat you differently for asking. To opt out of personalized advertising, see How to opt out above.
Children
Prime Journal is written for adults. We don't knowingly collect information from anyone under 16, and if we learn we have, we delete it.
Security
The site is served over an encrypted connection, keys and passwords are kept out of the site's code, and access to reader data is limited to the people who need it. No system is perfect; if we ever learn of a breach affecting you, we will tell you.
Changes
When we change this policy we change the date at the top. If a change is significant, we will say so on the site before it takes effect.
