6 Aries Zodiac and Birth Flowers (and How to Grow Each One)
From sweet pea seeds to a fence for honeysuckle, here’s how to grow each flower and check it before bringing it home to pets.

The short answer: Honeysuckle is the most widely named Aries zodiac flower. The National Garden Bureau calls it the sign’s astrological flower, and the Old Farmer’s Almanac calls it traditional. Thistle is a secondary pick. Florists also suggest tulips and daisies. Daffodils belong to March birthdays; daisies and sweet peas belong to April.

- How we review
You’re standing with a bulb packet in one hand and your phone in the other. One flower list says honeysuckle. Another says daffodil. Both sound certain.
Aries spans March and April, so a flower assigned to the sign and a flower assigned to a birth month won’t always match. There’s no single authority that assigns these flowers.
Before you plant or send one, read the label. It tells you which plant you’re getting and which pet-safety listing to check.
6Sweet Peas for April Birthdays
For an April birthday, sweet pea offers something you can grow from seed instead of picking from a florist’s cooler. FTD and the Old Farmer’s Almanac name it an April birth-month flower. It isn’t the primary flower for the Aries sign.
Sow annual sweet pea, *Lathyrus odoratus*, from mid-March to mid-April, following University of Illinois Extension’s sweet pea guidance. Give climbing varieties a support. NC State Extension says their pods are poisonous, so don’t eat them.
Pet safety needs the full name. The ASPCA’s sweet pea entry covers everlasting sweet pea, *Lathyrus latifolius*, a different plant from the annual above.
The ASPCA lists that perennial as non-toxic to dogs and cats but toxic to horses. Before planting the annual where pets graze, ask your veterinarian about *Lathyrus odoratus* by name.
Best for: An April birthday garden with a climbing support, once you’ve checked the exact plant for your pets.

5Daffodil Bulbs for March Birthdays
The daffodils come up beside the walk, and suddenly a March birthday gift seems obvious. FTD, Teleflora and the Society of American Florists all name daffodil as a March birth-month flower.
Plant the bulbs in fall, 6 to 8 inches deep and 6 to 12 inches apart. Choose full sun or partial shade. Those measurements come from University of Illinois Extension’s bulb-planting guide and spring-bulb guidance.
Before you leave bulbs by the door, think about a dog that investigates every bag. The ASPCA lists daffodils as toxic to dogs, cats and horses. The bulbs are the most poisonous part.
Store and plant them where pets cannot reach them.
Best for: A March birthday and an early-spring bulb display in a pet-free planting spot.

4Red Tulips for an Aries Flower Gift
Teleflora suggests bold red tulips for Aries. For an Aries flower with a clear gift connection, that’s the florist’s pick. It differs from the National Garden Bureau’s honeysuckle choice.
For spring stems, plant tulip bulbs in fall, 4 to 8 inches deep and 4 to 8 inches apart. Give them full sun or partial shade, as University of Illinois Extension advises.
A vase on the mantel doesn’t settle the pet question if a cat can climb there. The ASPCA lists tulips as toxic to dogs, cats and horses. The bulb holds the highest toxin concentration.
Best for: A classic spring cutting-garden bloom in a home where pets cannot reach the plants.

3Thistle for a Sunny Aries Border
Want the bold look of thistle without planting a troublesome true thistle? The National Garden Bureau names thistle for Aries.
For a border, globe thistle, *Echinops ritro*, gives you that thistle-like shape. It is a garden alternative, not a separately named Aries flower.
University of Illinois Extension places globe thistle in full sun.
Leave 3 to 4 feet between plants, as shown in the Missouri Botanical Garden’s perennial plant chart. Remove spent flowers to prevent self-seeding, advises NC State Extension.
The ASPCA lists globe thistle as non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses. Keep the plant tag so you can check *Echinops* rather than trusting the word “thistle” alone.
Best for: A sunny, bold-textured border where you want a plant listed as non-toxic to pets.

2Daisies for an April Birthday
Turn the pot until you find its plant name. “Daisy” alone doesn’t tell you enough.
The Old Farmer’s Almanac names daisy as an April birth-month flower, and ProFlowers suggests it as an Aries birthday flower. For a border, plant Shasta daisies in full sun and well-drained soil.
Space them 18 to 24 inches apart, following Iowa State University Extension.
For a container, Iowa State Extension says gerbera daisies do well in pots and window boxes with partial to full sun.
The ASPCA lists gerbera daisy as non-toxic to dogs, cats and horses. Its “daisy” entry for chrysanthemum lists toxicity to dogs and cats.
Read the tag before that cheerful pot goes on a windowsill.
Best for: An April birthday container or sunny border; choose a labeled gerbera when pet safety is the deciding factor.
1Honeysuckle, the Aries Zodiac Flower
You’ve found a sunny stretch of fence. Now the question is which honeysuckle belongs there.
The National Garden Bureau calls honeysuckle “the astrological flower for Aries.” The Old Farmer’s Almanac calls it traditional for the sign. Florists 1-800-Flowers and FTD name it too.
Check the plant name before trusting a color-specific meaning. No widely accepted separate meanings have been established for pink, red and white honeysuckle.
For a U.S. garden, look for coral honeysuckle, *Lonicera sempervirens*. NC State Extension describes this native vine as low-maintenance and attractive to hummingbirds.
Give it an arbor or sturdy fence. UF/IFAS Extension says it blooms best in full sun and lists year-round planting for Zones 7 to 10.
Check the botanical name before buying. NC State Extension classifies Japanese honeysuckle, *Lonicera japonica*, as highly invasive.
For pet safety, ask your veterinarian about the exact *Lonicera* species before putting it within reach. Don’t rely on the ASPCA entry for honeysuckle fuchsia; it’s a different plant.
Best for: The clearest Aries zodiac flower choice, trained on a sunny arbor or fence.
The bottom line
For one Aries zodiac flower, choose honeysuckle. The other names make sense once you separate sign flowers from March and April birth-month flowers.
Check the plant tag, pick its growing spot and look up the exact species before a pet gets near it. Which flower would you choose for yourself or someone else with an Aries birthday?

Honeysuckle is the leading Aries sign flower; the birth-month flower is daffodil for March or daisy and sweet pea for April. FTD names those month-based picks, while the National Garden Bureau also names thistle for the sign.
What is the Aries zodiac flower?
Honeysuckle is the most widely named flower for Aries. The National Garden Bureau calls it the sign’s astrological flower and includes thistle as another choice. The Old Farmer’s Almanac calls honeysuckle traditional.
Is thistle or honeysuckle the real Aries flower?
Honeysuckle is the primary Aries pick, while thistle is another choice. The National Garden Bureau names both; the Old Farmer’s Almanac emphasizes honeysuckle. No single body assigns zodiac flowers.

Yes, Aries begins around the March equinox, at spring’s start in the Northern Hemisphere. Its standard dates run about March 21 to April 19 in the tropical zodiac, as Astrology.com and Astro.com’s Astrowiki describe. That timing helps explain the spring blooms on Aries flower lists.
